I had a conversation recently about affirmations: things a person might repeat to himself to replace self-sabotaging lies. We know that the lips teach the mind, and in time the mind teaches the heart – either with the lies we hear and repeat, or with the truth we appropriate.
Disregarding the popular magic thinking of “manifesting,” which suggests the universe conforms itself to our words, there are a great many things the Lord says about us in scripture that we would do well to agree with. I’ve picked a few; if they make a healing and empowering meditation, then let’s put them on our lips, in our thinking, and into our hearts.
I am God’s workmanship, created for good works in Christ. (Ephesians 2:10)
I am strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. (Ephesians 6:10)
I am loved with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3)
The Holy Spirit is leading me into all truth. (John 16:13)
I am strong and courageous because God is with me (Joshua 1:9)
I am a new creation in Christ. Old things have passed away; all things are made new (2 Corinthians 5:17)
I am chosen and appointed to bear fruit that will last (John 15:16)
I offer myself to God as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to Him. (Romans 12:1)
I have been forgiven, and God is purifying me from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
I am the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Matthew 5:13-14)
I am fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
I am growing wise because I walk with the wise (Proverbs 13:20)
I have chosen to let the peace of Christ rule in my heart because I am called to peace (Colossians 3:15)
God has plans for me, plans of peace and not of harm, to give me a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11)
I did not choose Jesus, He chose me, and appointed me to go and bear fruit that will last (John 15:16)
I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances: I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:11-13)
