“Everything goes to one place.
Everything is from the dust
And everything returns to the dust.” (Ecclesiastes 3:20).
Not so long ago our culture called us to awaken with the sobering reminder YOLO: You Only Live Once. This brief handful of decades is all you get.
If I waste these few years expressing myself, trying to be true to this temporary reality, stroking my ego – then very soon I’ll find myself in that state permanently. “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he that is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still” (Revelation 22:11).
If I don’t learn here and now to deny myself and be transformed into the likeness of the Good, then the vast contrast – between what I am and what I could have been transformed into by Love – will be a gulf too great to cross.
We all hate when surprise visitors see our house as we actually live. How much more terrible is the day when we stand in the Light, and we are not condemned for our failures but we are revealed to be so much less than the Love who has been calling us upward all along.
