“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:3).
Meekness, of course, is not self-hatred or pliability; it is integrity, stillness of heart, and a foundation of peace that does not rely on any other human’s validation.
Meekness means I can bear all things, hope all things, endure all things, because they are external and temporary. The heart that is securely established in Christ can yield without being defeated, because the Christian’s integrity is built on a Rock, not on circumstances. We need to guard the heart with diligence, for all we do flows from it (Proverbs 4:23).

This came to mind today as I reread chapter 8 of the Tao Te Ching:
The supreme goodness is like water.
It benefits all things without contention.
It goes right to the low places that people disdain
and so it is like the Way.
In being, it flows to depths.
In expression, it is honest.
In generosity it is kind.
In speech it is sincere.
In confrontation, it is gentle.
In governance, it does not control.
In action, it it timely
