My approach to “debate” on, let’s say, Facebook, is to write a detailed, thoughtful post, and leave it. Ignore all replies, don’t even read or interact with them. Anything past this initial saying-my-piece just tends to take up massive volumes of time, emotions flare, and ever-diminishing returns.
Getting stuck in an endless back-and-forth debate where the last person still writing retorts declares himself the winner is just dumb.
(Of course, this is completely different from a formal, moderated debate, a thing in which I have no interest nor experience. I’m purely talking about spontaneous internet conflict, which I think this graphic has in mind.)
