Who sinned?

This morning's Gospel reading was the healing of the blind man in John chapter 9. 

I think it's interesting that two weeks ago, Christ explicitly told the paralytic his infirmity was the consequence of his sins.

Now, when asked how anybody could be born blind as a consequence for sins, Christ clarifies that this was not the result of anyone's sins but an opportunity to show the glory of God.

In other words, while some suffering certainly comes because of our choices, there's no warrant to assume anyone's situation is what they deserve.
