I’ma let you finish, but 1896 had the best currency notes of ALL TIME
These 1896 Silver Certificates are refered to as the Educational series, and are regarded among collectors as being in the top 10 of all time collectible currency notes. The $5 in particular is regarded by many to be the most spectacular currency note ever.
Each vignette has a name associated with it.
$1 – History Instructing Youth (note history pointing at the constitution)
$2 – Science Presenting Steam and Electricity to Commerce and Manufacture
$5 – Electricity Presenting Light to the World
Background: Notes like these were produced in a post-reconstruction to attempt to educate Americans about art. Paper currency would be printed with multiple versions of some of the most famous paintings in the world. The government hoped that they would be useful during the westward movements, with many people being raised in areas with little education; one person who had graduated a school could teach the rest.
In case you were wondering, collectors pay roughly $4000, $8000, and $15000 respectively for an “Uncirculated Gem” version of each. However, the US Mint will no longer honor these certificates if you attempt to collect the one, two, or five dollars in silver that the notes originally represented.
